All The Ladies [#29]
Konichiwa from Tokyo,
Gah, is this election over yet? I find myself pretty beat down by the daily onslaught of ever more absurd headlines. So I've balanced my reading with some stuff that's totally unrelated to the American presidential election, at least I think.
What I Read
The science of standing in line. Joe Buck's hair plugs obsession almost cost him his voice. Xenophobia is partly to blame for MSG getting a bad rap. What HAVEN'T cats done for us? Oh god, children inherit their intelligence from their moms. Just in time for Halloween, a PSA: be kind to people dressed as food. And now to the political headlines, which you can skip if you're just over it: A decades-old interview of Barack and Michelle Obama, talking about they keep the 'mystery' in their relationship. Women who reveal too much or too little are punished. Americans ignored basic civics to our peril. Donald Trump's DC hotel is losing money already. Rosie O'Donnell's poem about Ivanka Trump.
What I Wrote/Talked About
How Samsung is like North Korea. The problem with the politics of narcissism. A tribute to Cup Noodles. Grading Obama's Asia pivot. Also I'm appearing on a new program on the English-language Korean channel, Arirang, called 'Foreign Correspondents,' where we discuss news of the week.
What I'm Watching
So much 'A Closer Look' with Seth Myers. Masters of Sex seems to have come back from the brink, but only rejoin if you were once loyal. And Party Down never, ever gets old.
If you've made it all the way to the end, a little personal news: The Hu-Stiles family will be a party of five! My eggo is preggo again and we're adding another sweet baby girl to the brood in 2017.
To world peace,
Elise
