Baby It's Cold Outside [#34]
Happy Winter Solstice,
I'm back in Seoul after circumnavigating the globe, spending a few days in DC, a night in New York and a fab weekend ambling about London. Suffice to say there's no "What I Did At Work" section in this edition. So I've replaced it with some quotespiration.
What I Read
My favorite thing of every holiday season, besides my family's annual dirty Christmas cookie tradition (seen above). What happens when Bill Gates is your Secret Santa. Drunk man gets violent on flight, Richard Marx was 'right there waiting.' There are actually four different types of introverts. You can performance review your marriage. Being black and public on the internet. Holding back women holds back every country in the world. Donald Trump never laughs. A catalog of his conflicts of interest. The things that could go badly in 2017. Well, this is too on the nose. Protect the vulnerable. If you can't be brave, be kind. And last but not least, the hot hanbok street style of Korea.
What I Watched
The Rectify goodbye. The Nora Ephron documentary (which I didn't even know existed until I was on a plane looking for a "plane movie." You know what I mean). NPR's exit interview with POTUS Obama.
This powerful poem, on talking to young daughters about 2016. "Tell her she was born just in time. Just in time to lead."
Quotespiration
"If they only have to say, he received this award, and he sold this many records - if those are the things that people are mentioning, I don't think that's a life that got fully lived. I want my life to be fulfilled in a way where people will say, this dude inspired people. Man, he was a good father. And he just was a nice person." -Common, on Morning Edition
I hope you're warm, wherever you are,
Elise
