He Said Yes [#65]
Well, what a week. Some stuff happened.
I was surprised as everyone that not only did KJU decide he'd come on down to the border with South Korea for a summit with President Moon Jae-in (huge in it of itself), but that later in the week, Trump accepted RIGHT AWAY an invite to meet with Kim face-to-face. The first part, about the Moon summit, broke on Tuesday night after I had stolen Asahi's from a fridge with a decoy lock on it (newsflash: was not secured). The Trump/Kim summit news broke on Friday morning and did not include a beer bogarting subplot. Also this week, I learned someone named Bunni Pounds is running for Congress in Texas because, of course.
Reading
Worthwhile reading on the proposed summit. The effort to write women back into history. The problem with "fake news" is us. Hunter S. Thompson chillingly predicted #MAGA. Lawrence Wright on a purple Texas. What is going on with America's evangelicals? Lede of the week: "If a porn-tinged hush payment falls in a news din already torqued to maximum volume, does it make a sound?" How to craft the job you want. The NFL has a staggering number of quarterbacks available. Refreshing: A pro-athlete talks opens up about his mental health. There's a Museum of Broken Relationships, which began with a breakup of its own (h/t Friend Patrick). A research study on people who made it to college without a first kiss. Every episode of This is Us, in a nutshell. A guide to buying sheets. Toddler accidentally locks iPhone for half a century.
Werk and Musings
Did a lot of talking about North Korea and Trump over the past 48 hours. Chronicled my latest "fan" mail experience, including the response I didn't send in full. Made a Refinery29 list for snarky tweets, I think.
Watching/Listening
The Joan Didion documentary, The Center Will Not Hold (h/t Friend Sarah).
This American Life's incredible episode, Five Women, features five women on their experiences working for the same man. But it goes deeper — into their personal histories and identities, and how it shaped their encounters with the abusive boss.
Love is back for season 3! Atlanta is back for season 2! How am I going to have time for beer-stealing?!?!
Be stable (and geniuses),
Elise
