Life's Short [#19]
Oh hai! Sorry I haven't written in a while.
Since my last newsletter I went to Okinawa and Beijing. I'm currently back in Seoul, having a hissy fit about the bad pollution this month, which you might be able to tell from some of my more dour links, below.
What I Read
A new map for America. How Trump happened. The Tokyo subway is so much better than the DC Metro. Korean political parties can't stop changing their names. Women writers you should read. Do you live in an elitist bubble? What it's like to live in toxic, polluted cities. The Chinese adoptee who went searching for her birth mom. A son's farewell tribute to his dad. Is modern parenting ruining our kids? Pay women more if you don't want them to quit in their 30's. It's that simple.
What I Watched
The longest study on happiness and what it teaches us.
The new Starz drama, The Girlfriend Experience. I don't have the talent to describe why it's so compelling but New York Magazine critic Matt Zoller Seitz does, so here's his review.
What I Wrote/Made
Samsung is like a regimented military. South Korea can be like North Korea. What does Kim Jong Un want? South Korea's plastic surgery prowess is getting put to good use. Memories of my first female role model who's not my mom.
So, what have you been reading or watching that's worth sharing? Send me a note if there's anything that oughta be in the Hu's letter.
To more experiences,
Elise
