Pineapple Park Is Just What I Needed This November [#32]
Hope everyone had a safe and conflict-free holiday.
For Thanksgiving we escaped to Okinawa, which has a chill Hawaii vibe and similar scenery. For the first time ever, I drove on the left side of the road and the right side of a giant van. We didn't die. But I did keep turning on the windshield wipers every time I wanted to signal. And we visited a ridiculous Japanese theme park called 'Pineapple Park,' which is a tribute to pineapples. Here is the cart you ride around in.
What I Read
A Buddhist monk on mindfulness in this time of transition. Who's the 'we' in 'We the People'? The danger is there is no national dialogue. Let's be realistic about the 'fresh start' notions. Let's not pretend no one was responsible. Let's revisit objectivity. Let's fight against extinction. Lessons from resisting Berlusconi. Some tips on what to do in the face of authoritarianism. But hey, there is some good news in all of this. The president-elect's first 100 days, according to him. Don't be distracted by Trump's twitter drama. Instead, watch those ties to Russia. Fake news, aka, propaganda artist says it was way easier to dupe right wingers. It's the very future of politics itself. Education isn't what lifted Asian Americans. Break smartphone addiction by turning everything grey. An alarm designer on how best to annoy people. A tribute to the best snack ever. Disastrous toaster oven design. The real reason Jessie on Saved by the Bell was "so excited."
What I Wrote/Talked About
Jail time's not so bad in Japan. A 'recipe for disaster' on the Korean peninsula. The South Korean president is now a suspect in a sweeping cronyism scandal. The influences of my 'creative' education when I was very young, and more, in a podcast for entrepreneurs.
What I'm Watching
Obama's speech for Ellen DeGeneres as she won the Presidential Medal of Freedom was all the feels. And I can't say enough good stuff about Rectify. The most recent episode, 'Pineapples in Paris,' rewarded longtime viewers.

After watching former U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry speak, I have become terrified about the likelihood of nuclear catastrophe. We can become more knowledgeable by taking part in his MOOC.
My aforementioned friend Erica is taking part in Remote Year, where she works remotely from a different part of the globe for a month at a time. Her crew, acknowledging the privilege of this, is instagramming at Digital Douchebag.
Just keep swimming,
