Taipei Times [#24]
Ni hao from Taipei,
Spent the past week with my parents, spouse and kids in muggy Taiwan before I head off for two weeks of work in the U-S of A. What a heavy summer it's been. As I write this, there's an attempted coup going on in Turkey (!?!?!?). Hope y'all are taking care of yourselves and each other.
What I Read
Digital news in a distributed world. Avoid international data plans. Hookup culture's not the problem, math is. Friend Jenny writes to her 26-year old self. Starting out, in your 40's. What is it to make the most of oneself? Psychotherapy as a status symbol. Generation War. Beijing is sinking. Three cheers for Japanese minimalism. Go ahead, tuck your dress into your shorts. Groom your cat like he wants to be groomed.
Donald Trump chew toys, y'all! The tortilla towel is SOLD OUT, because of course it is.
What I Wrote
The Dallas tragedy, since I was one of the few NPR staffers awake for all the overnight developments. The outgrowth of misogyny in South Korea. Adventures with my constant travel companion, the breast pump.
What I'm Watching
Mr Robot is back, y'all! And seriously, if you have yet to watch the 30 for 30 documentary about OJ, I can't praise it enough. It's ostensibly about OJ, but really it's about America.
Recommendations
One of these is a great summer read, the other is not so ... beach-ish, but a cogent and important primer.

OK off to catch a plane. Don't Pokemon Go and drive!
Be well,
