Twitchy [#57]
Annyeonghaseyo,

I've developed an annoying eyelid twitch from what I think is probably lack of sleep. The infant Luna is not to blame, but rather North Korea, which likes to mess around on weekends and early mornings! This is the last straw, North Korea.
Reading
"I don't know how they've done that, to have a Harvey and an Irma." Harvey, in photos. The ecological disaster to come. Houston's about to get a hella lotta skeeters. Tanehisi Coates' latest barnburner. Ivanka Trump, "more a logo than a person." Evangelicals' intransigence on homosexuality is killing them. HUD under Ben Carson. His interview on NPR, "which sounded like a joke," friend Patrick said. Snoring should be recognized as more significant problem. Another thing wrong with sororities. Millennial women are in a rut. The retiree who went on a naked rampage through a luxury hotel. The Australian lawmaker who outed her spouse for child porn (h/t @stiles). Searches for "large breast" have been sagging since October 2016. This seemed like an idea that went in search of a story. Sweden's museum of failure. A pretty good concession if an airline loses your luggage. And yes, you betcha these calculators played Despacito (ht @lizsayz).
Work and Musings
North Korea's sixth nuclear test was the most powerful one yet. The last test launch flew over Japan for the first time in a long time. Locals in Hokkaido are doing duck-and-cover drills, after being in the missile's flight path. Accidentally reported that story with food all over myself.
Watch & Listen
Jay Caspian Kang, on the Longform podcast. "I write about Asian-American identity mostly to negate the idea that it exists." Speaking of Kang, he just did a closer look at the country's most hardline immigration law, Texas' SB4, on HBO's Vice News Tonight, for those of you who have HBO.
Manhunt: Unabomber (Remember when he was a thing? Also, it's worth revisiting his manifesto.)
You're the Worst, it's finally baaaaack.
As usual, please send me links YOU recommend, along with any comments, quips, complaints, etc. I'm also searching for "things to consider" in preparation for a stint fill-in hosting All Things Considered this fall. Really looking forward, as it will be a last chance to work with and learn from the great Robert Siegel before his retirement. Send ideas!
Later gators,
Elise
